1.Product Introduction Magnetic Separator

A High-Intensity Magnetic Separator is a precision instrument capable of generating powerful magnetic fields, typically with a magnetic flux density ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 Tesla (5,000 to 20,000 Gauss). It is specifically designed to separate weakly magnetic minerals with low magnetic susceptibility (such as hematite, limonite, and ilmenite) or to perform deep iron removal and purification for non-metallic minerals (such as quartz and kaolin). The core technology lies in the use of high-gradient magnetic media (e.g., steel wool, steel mesh) or optimized magnetic circuit designs to significantly enhance the magnetic field gradient, effectively capturing micron-sized weakly magnetic particles. Depending on structure and application, common types include Jones-type, rotary ring (e.g., DCH type), induced roll, and High-Gradient Magnetic Separators (HGMS).

2.Application Magnetic Separator

High-intensity magnetic separators are widely utilized across multiple industrial sectors:

  • Mineral Processing: Separation of weakly magnetic iron ores (hematite, limonite), manganese ore, ilmenite, chromite, wolframite, and tantalum-niobium ores.

  • Non-Metallic Mineral Purification: Deep iron removal for quartz, feldspar, nepheline, fluorite, and kaolin to improve product whiteness and quality.

  • Industrial Impurity Removal: Removal of fine iron impurities in the production of chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, and new energy materials (such as lithium battery cathode materials) to ensure product purity and equipment safety.

  • Resource Recovery and Environmental Protection: Used in scrap metal recycling and the treatment of wastewater and sludge in the steel industry to recover valuable magnetic substances.

  • Coal Processing: Removal of iron debris such as nails and wires from coal to prevent conveyor belt damage and screen clogging.

3.Working Principle Magnetic Separator

The operation of the HIMS is based on the differences in magnetic susceptibility among various components within a material:

  1. Magnetic Field Generation: The device generates a strong magnetic field using electromagnetic coils or high-performance permanent magnets (such as NdFeB). Highly permeable magnetic media (such as stainless steel wool or steel balls) are placed between the magnetic poles to create a highly non-uniform magnetic field gradient.

  2. Material Feeding: The material (in dry or slurry form) is fed uniformly into the magnetic field zone.

  3. Magnetic Separation: Magnetic particles are attracted by the magnetic field and adsorbed onto the surface of the magnetic media, while non-magnetic particles, unaffected by the magnetic force, pass directly through under the influence of gravity or fluid dynamics.

  4. Sorting and Cleaning: The media containing the adsorbed magnetic minerals rotates with the equipment (such as a rotary ring or drum) to a non-magnetic zone. The concentrate is then unloaded via backwashing or mechanical scraping to achieve separation from the tailings.
